CAMP DIRECTOR

Christmas in July: starting right "Violet", "Bert", "Pending", "Speed" and "Blueberry"

Rebecca “Bert” Simpson has never played dress-up so much in her life since becoming Director at Camp Douglas in September 2009!

Rebecca is a graduate of theological college with a Master of Divinity and she is currently the Minister at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Mission, British Columbia.  In these recent years she has felt God’s call into this vital camping ministry.  Rebecca’s experience as a wife to Matt since 1994, a mother of three children and as a high school Biology teacher put her in good stead for taking care of the nuts and bolts of running a smooth camp.  But it is really Rebecca’s passion for journeying with young Christians as they develop leadership skills that brought Rebecca to Camp Douglas.

While her nickname’s sake “Bert” maybe known as the logical, stiff counter-part to the fun-loving “Ernie” of the famous duo – it is Rebecca’s intention to join children in the fun of getting-wet-when-you-least-expect-it, singing campfire praise songs until you’ve lost your voice and eating shipwreck meals with the most outrageous utensils – there will be nothing stiff or logical about camp this summer!

Rebecca’s take on camp is to seize every opportunity to help campers connect with God’s good creation while working hard to foster camper faith and friendships.
