The following is meant to give a
rough idea of the responsibilities of the various positions on the Camp Douglas Summer Staff.
WARNING! Actual positions will likely be both more challenging and more rewarding than you expect!
Summer Administrator
The summer administrator works closely with camp director to handle organization, communication, publicity, and registration.
He/she organizes transportation to and from the camp including checking in campers at the Horseshoe Bay terminal and insuring
their safe arrival to the camp. He/She will work with the head cabin leader to prepare cabin assignation lists.
The summer administrator also is manages the tuck shop including all transactions and organization of stock.
Head Cook
The head cook is responsible for ordering food, preparing menus and meals within budget and on time, He/She must ensure that
the special dietary needs are met and that adequate hydration is always available to staff and campers. The cook is also
responsible for training and facilitating kitchen staff and volunteers, and for keeping a clean and friendly kitchen.
There's more to this job than just food prep, that's for sure!
First-Aid Attendant
The first-aid attendant is responsible for collecting, recording and distributing medication, providing first-aid to staff
and campers who are sick or injured, and monitoring the cleanliness of the camp environment, among many other things.
Waterfront Staff
Waterfront staff is responsible for swim tests, staff waterfront training, supervision of waterfront activities, maintenance
of waterfront equipment, enforcement of waterfront rules and policies, and a zillion other things besides.
Program Staff
Program staff plan themes and activities for the summer and plan Bible studies based on the camp curriculum in co-operation with the worship director,
They also must ensure that adequate supplies are available for all program activities, adjust daily program as necessary,
maintain lines of communication with program assistants and head cabin leader regarding program issues,
teach and lead program activities. Et cetera.
Worship Director
Worship Director is not responsible for leading each and every worship service, but rather for organizing, guiding and helping
the people who will lead each morning worship, campfire, and other service during the day. They will assist the program
director in planning and leading the daily Bible studies. They will also help the head cabin leader to assist cabin leaders
in developing nighttime devotionals. Program staff will assist the program director and program alternate in teaching and
leading program activities when practical, and often when it isn't very practical at all.
LIT Councilor
For the first three weeks of the summer, the LIT counsellors will be responsible for running the LIT program, including the
out trip and supervision of the Cabin-Leading portion of the program. Afterward, They will be expected to do more jobs than
are humanly possible, just like everyone else. The LIT Counsellor positions demand a great deal of dedication and flexibility,
as well as tremendous knowledge and skill.
HEAD CABIN LEADER
The primary responsibilities of this position are to establish relationships with the Cabin Leaders, and maintain lines of
communication between the Cabin Leaders and the Camp Director. Additionally, the Head Cabin Leader should assist in all
aspects of training Cabin Leaders, help with any problems or issues that arise, and work with the Worship Director to help
CLs plan Morning Worship and Campfire sessions. Will also work with the Administrator and Camp Director to maintain the site,
and do whatever it takes to keep the camp running smoothly, including participating in programs.
As you can see, there are a wide variety of positions, each demanding different skills and offering different challenges.
